Royal Buffet – Newton/Conover June 8, 2006

Royal Buffet in Newton/Conover is out of Burke County but worth a mention.
Royal Beffett is on Hwy 70 in Newton/Conover next to McDonalds. I really like Chinese food and it is hard for me to find a restaurant that I like. I do like this one though. There are several food bars in the restaurant with your usual Chinese food finds on it. There are a couple of cold food bars also. My favorite things include Sesame Chicken, Hot and Spicy Chicken, A1 Steak, Crab Cheese Wong Tons, and many others. There are mussels, squid salad, and lots of shrimp. An unique feature is the Mongolian BBQ bar. Here you get a plate load it up with raw vegetables (Mushrooms, Bean Sprouts, Water Chestnuts, and Onions to name a few), pick your meats (Chicken, Steak, Pork, and Crab), season them to your taste with an assortment of oils and sauces, hand the plate to your chef and he cooks it all for you on a huge round Teppanyak style cook table.
Prices are comparable to most Chinese buffett's. The restaurant is clean although its Heath Department score is in the mid 80's (I cannot remember exactly).
So next time you are in the area, I hope that you will try it out… I think you will be glad that you did.
Southern Fare June 3, 2006

Several years ago I had a meal with an old friend who was raised in another part of the country. Upon being seated I caught her eye as she glared at me and stated with disdain, "Southern Fare"… Apparently her idea of the perfect meal was different from mine. Diners have more choices in food than ever before. Some restaurants remain in business for many years while others seem to go out of business as soon as they open their doors. When you come home from a great dining experience, sit down and type a few lines to let the rest of us know what you had for dinner and how you enjoyed your meal. Breakfast and lunch, don't forget us.
I believe restaurants go out of business for several reasons. Some try to increase their profit line by serving cheaper grades of meat. Quality is what diners are all looking for. Quality of food, quality of service, and a reasonable price. Patrons that end up wishing that they had warmed up a tv dinner at home and saved their money will not be repeat customers. Repeat customers is what all business's want.
Who wants to know where you can find a juicy tender ribeye at a reasonable price? Put your hand down. I'm not telling yet. Before we give our culinary opinion on who makes the best apple pie in town, we must first put all restaurant owners on notice. Serve me slop and everyone will know that you serve slop. Serve me a great meal and your restaurant will be hallowed ground. Now that we have a blog site, we can all be food critics. So get to bloggin.
